Jackson Hole, USA
Jackson Hole Ski Holidays
Jackson Hole is without doubt one of our favourite ski resorts in North America. Famous for its steep and deep terrain and Wild West atmosphere it is just the best! Jackson Hole was originally discovered in the early 1800’s by fur trappers. However, it wasn’t until the 1960’s that the area was converted into a ski resort and the tram took its first run. Jackson Hole is probably one of our favourite ski resorts in the world as it is still a ‘proper’ cowboy town where you really feel as if you are in the Wild West. Even just getting to Jackson is an adventure as you have to take a flight from Denver through the Teton’s which give fantastic views on your way in. The main village is made up of boardwalks and saloons and from here you take a 15 min bus trip to Teton Village where the lifts are. Teton Village has expanded over the years to become quite an attractive base with condo’s hotels and a few good bars.
Ski Jackson
Jackson Hole is on the list of places to ski and board of many experts and good intermediates because of its reputation for fantastic big mountain skiing. The resort receives a massive amount of powder snow throughout the season which draws people in from far and wide. Jackson Hole celebrated the arrival of 'Big Red' in 2008. This is the tram that whisks skiers and boarders up 4000 feet from the base station to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. Rendezvous has the steepest terrain in Jackson and is the home to the famous Corbett's Couloir. Definitely worth a peek over the edge to feel the butterflies in your tummy yelp! Although Jackson is not known for its easy runs there are a few that beginner's will be happy learning on with the excellent ski school. Intermediates will just love the cruising runs on Apres Vous and the easier blacks on Rendezvous. There are also some great paths through the trees to play in. However, it is the advanced skiers and boarders that will have sleepless nights before getting up to go skiing in the morning as they will be full of anticipation and excitement for the day ahead. Jackson really is a cult resort for those hard core skiers and boarders who want the challenges without having to hire a guide and go off piste. There is some amazing skiing and boarding to be had in the chutes, glades and bowls that Jackson has ready for you. The gates out into the backcountry open up a huge 3,000 acres of terrain but definitely hire a guide if heading through into the unknown as it is really gnarly!
Jackson Hole Apres Ski
For an apres ski drink immediately after skiing then head to the Mangy Moose at Teton as it is full of atmosphere and often has live music. Back in Jackson the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar has saddles as bar stools and has live music and dancing on some nights. Off the slopes a visit to Yellowstone National Park is worth a trip. A trip on a snowmobile is also great fun as you will see Elk, Moose and various other wildlife.
Jackson Hole Childcare
The Kids Ranch looks after children from 6 months to 3 years. They sever only free range and natural meat to keep the children healthy and happy. There are camps for the older children. There is even a night out program should you want a child free evening.
