Lake Tahoe is found on the border of California and Nevada in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. There are 14 ski resorts around the shores of the Lake offering over 17,500 acres of terrain. Squaw Valley has a car free village that was built by Intrawest, who are known for their quality developments. Squaw Valley is the main resort at the end of the north end of Lake Tahoe.

Ski Squaw Valley

Squaw Valley offers 6 linked peaks that are made up of high bowls and some tree runs. With an everage of 38 feet of snow and plenty of sunshine it is a fantastic resort for all skiers and boarders. Beginners will find that there are plenty of wide open pistes to learn on. The Papoose nursery area has a lovely easy slope and its own chairlift. A special beginners pass can be bought for those not planning on travelling far. Intermediates will find the blue runs just fantastic for flying down and progression onto the easy blacks will not be hard to practise in the deeper snow or the bumps. More advanced skiers and boarders will just love the steep chutes and big mogul fields that they are presented with. There is plenty of big mountain skiing to go for but you should really get a guide as some of the routes are not that clear. A guide will take you off the tracks to explore the best places on the mountain. There are three terrain parks and boarders will just love the natural kicks and drops.

Squaw Valley Apres Ski

For a lively pint at the end of the day head to the Auld Dubliner pub, there is also a wine bar and live music can be found on some days. Off the slopes there is an ice rink, spa or jump on the paddle steamer and take a cruise across the lake. For eating out there are some excellent restaurants offering a variety of cuisine from pasta to sushi or tapas.

There are no childcare services for younger children. However for children 3 to 4 years there is the Snow Cubs Ski Program

The snowboard school offers a variety of lessons from groups and private lessons to ski clinics that are more focused for advanced skiers or boarders, adventure clinics and women only clinics
